Sandy Run is where most of the local Regattas are held.  Click on the picture on the right for a larger overhead view of Sandy Run and Oxford Boathouse.

Directions to Sandy Run

If you are coming from Lake Ridge/Woodbridge, just head toward old town Occoquan and take Ox road across the Occoquan river.  Turn left on Hampton Road where you will turn left. Go about 1/2 mile on Hampton road and turn left on Van Thompson Road (you will see power lines overhead, just in front of you). After about 1/4 mile Van Thompson bears sharply to the left at a well weathered barn and continues down a hill to the entrance to Sandy Run Park.

Parking attendants charge a $5-$10 parking fee (This helps pay the Park Authority for use of the park).  Park and either take the walking trail or ride the shuttle (for a small fee per passenger...about $1 each).  If you choose to walk, bring comfortable walking shoes – the trail is about ½ mile long and there are some steep sections along the lake. See you there!! Go Hylton!!
