Word Version
General Information
Laid back is the order of the day at this regatta. The regatta is a
great opportunity to put some fun into the sport and a great day to row and
laugh.. There are usually coaches' and coxswains' races at the end of the
day. Parents are highly encouraged to come. There is a craft show and
the Lions Club puts on quite a feed especially
crab cakes.
There is a $5 parking fee at the regatta site.. There will be
school buses to shuttle people to the race site from the parking lots.
The T-shirt is always a nice one. They actually list all the
rowers' names on it.

Rowers:
- Regular regatta stuff, including spending money for concession lunch
and T-shirts.
- Be aware that space is very limited down there, for both rowers and
spectators. We will try to set up one whole tent if space permits,
especially with inclement weather in the forecast, but may be limited to
just half of the tent. You may not have a lot of room to spread out, so
be prepared to share blankets, etc.
- Forecast right now is for morning showers, so it should be clearing
up as the day goes on. Plan accordingly! Bring/wear layers. Pack ALL
your stuff in zip-locks or other plastic bags inside your duffel. Pack
your sleeping bags/blankets/duffels in large trash bags -- and keep them
in the bags when not in use so they'll stay clean and dry! Bring a
towel. Bring extra socks. Bring an umbrella and/or poncho/rain
gear/jacket for when you're out in the weather cheering on your
teammates during the morning hours. Bring sunscreen for when the weather
clears.
- Keep in mind that you are traveling by school bus, and there isn't a
storage area under the bus. There are 32 rowers attending, and several
parent chaperones, so you won't all have a seat to yourselves! You'll
have your gear with you on the bus. If you want to bring a pillow to try
to get some sleep on the drive down, that's up to you.
Parents:
- Same as above -- Regular regatta stuff, including spending money for
concession lunch and T-shirts!
- You're definitely going to want a chair -- there are no grandstands.
- Because of space limitations, we won't be able to provide a "tent
city" for parents like last week, so make sure you've got your umbrellas
and rain gear for the morning showers!

On behalf of the Mathews High School Crew team we
would like to invite you to the Tidewater Crews Regatta on Saturday,
May 7, 2005. For the enjoyment of all, we like to take this
opportunity to give you some important information. We hope for a
beautiful day on the river. Bring chairs, sunscreen, etc. according
to the weather.
-
The only parking available is in the paid parking lot.
The fee is 5.00 per car. This is the only entrance fee you will pay and
this is one of the few ways our team has to make money to help defray
the cost of hosting the regatta. Unlike most high school sports, we have
no gate fee per person and our school division requires each team to
have a fundraiser. Thank you for supporting ours.
-
The shuttle bus will run every 10-15minutes for the
0.5-mile ride.
-
The sheriff’s office will be contacted for any cars that
are parked on dirt lanes or along the road and will be towed to another
location in the county.
-
If your team would like to put up a tent please ask your
coach to pass this info on to our regatta chairman by e-mail. Provide
the size, so we can plan a location for your tent. Tents 10 x 10 will be
given priority for location. Tents larger will be allowed to be placed
if space is available. No tent can be erected without getting permission
from the grounds crew Sat AM. We will have an assigned spot for each
requested tent.
-
We would like to provide space for all participants &
spectators to enjoy the regatta. Plans cannot be made to insure
everyone’s needs are met without this information. We found that the
congestion at the wharf last May caused issues that we plan on avoiding
this year.
-
PLEASE, NO DOGS!! They don’t use the porta potty like we
do and its hard enough already to carry shells without having to dodge
little unpleasant piles.
-
There will be food sold by our local volunteer
organizations. Their profits help fund scholarships for our high school
students as well as provide help for the needy during the year.
-
Due to safety and smoke concerns, cooking on grills of
any kind is not permitted at the regatta site. Thanks for your
cooperation.
-
We cannot allow any merchandise, such as clothing, to be
sold by any person or group without prior permission and payment of
vending fees that all other groups are required to pay. If this policy
is violated, the team associated with the violation will forfeit all
winnings.
-
The last flushable toilet is Hardee’s in Mathews
Courthouse. Plan accordingly! We have porta potties on the regatta site.
In late spring of 2005 a Subway will open behind the Hardees.
