THE FOLLOWING IS FOR THE JULY 4, 2007 PARADE:

Background:

Hylton Crew will be participating in the Dale City 4th of July Parade.  The motto for the parade this year is "Dale City Celebrates - America's 400th Anniversary".

The parade starts promptly at 10:00 am at the intersection of Kirkdale Road and Dale Blvd and ends at Center Plaza near the Dairy Queen.  Parade participants walk/drive/march slowly down Dale Blvd.  Most years, participants hand out candy to the children along the parade route.  It is always a great time for participants and spectators alike.  The types of "floats" include marching bands, vintage car clubs, motorcycle clubs, politicians, Boy and Girl Scout Packs and Troops, companies that want some free advertising, etc.

Rowers and Parents:

All participating rowers and parents will meet promptly at 8:00 am at Mapledale Plaza.  The trailer and tow vehicle will be there along with all the decorations that we will put on the trailer.  For example, we will have blue and gold streamers, balloons, a helium tank, ribbon, etc.

The day prior, the girls white Hudson Quad, 2 ergs and 8 sculling oars will be loaded onto the trailer.  The shell will be thoroughly cleaned prior to loading.  The morning of the parade, it will be secured to the trailer on the top rack using custom slings that Mr. Rickman made.  It will also be fully rigged with all eight oars.

We will have bottled water for use by all participants.  We will also have bags of candy for everyone so they can give candy to kids along the route.  We will also have helium balloons to hand out.

All attendees must wear spirit or patriotic wear!  Everyone is also encouraged to wear a hat and bring sunscreen since it will probably be a hot, sunny day.

Everyone must be on their best behavior.  No horseplay, etc. will be tolerated.

We will have 1 hour to decorate the trailer prior to lining up in our spot on the course.

Line-up for the parade is at 9:00 am.  Be prepared to sit around for at least an hour prior to us moving.  You are encouraged to bring CD players, MP3 players, etc. to pass the time, but once the parade starts, all electronics must be placed in the cab of the tow vehicle.  You can also put other valuables (wallets, purses, cell phones, etc.) in the cab of the tow vehicle during the parade.

As we pass the reviewing stand that is set up near the Comcast building near Center Plaza, we will not only be judged, but we will also be on television.  The parade is televised on Comcast channel 3.  Last year, Hylton Crew won first place in the youth marching group category.  Perhaps we can win a trophy this year too!

After we finish the parade, we will park the trailer and tow vehicle in the parking lot behind Center Plaza.  Prior to departing, all participants are expected to help remove all the decorations, de-rig the shell, and secure it for transport.

At the end of the parade route, behind Center Plaza, a Family Fun Day will be held.  Everyone is encouraged to spend some time there after they help take the decorations off of the trailer.  Typical stuff at the Family Fun Day include entertainment, games, displays, craft shows and food.

The Boosters are looking forward
to seeing you at the parade!
