2003 Updates

July 7, 2003: From Ginny Fichten (ginny@fichten.com): Hello Boosters! Since the names on Dave's volunteer list are pretty much the same as last week, thought I'd let the rest of you know just what we do at Nissan in case you're wondering how you can help...

Upon arrival, we all get gussied up in the fashionable Aramark shirts and hats. We wipe down all the counters in the booth, and do an inventory of all the cups, food and drinks. We salt big pretzels and put them in the warmer. We scoop popcorn into bags and put the bags in the warmer. We move soda and water bottles from the fridges to the front coolers and ice them down. We mix up margarita mix and get the machine going (this IS Kenny Chesney's "Senoritas and Margaritas" tour, you know!). Now we're ready for the evening.

Just before the gates open, we log in our cash registers and get ready to serve our customers. During the event some of us will work the registers -- easy job since each item is marked on the pad. Just punch in "Pepsi" or "draft beer" or whatever and you're done! Others will fill orders -- pulling beers, pouring the bottled beers into cups, filling wine cups from the wine box, filling margarita cups from the machine, grabbing pretzels and popcorn from the warmers. Others will help with stuff like re-stocking the front coolers with drinks and ice, making the margarita mix, taking out trash (especially needed when we have to pour the water and soda into cups!), wiping down counters and go-fering.

Near the end of the concert Aramark will cut off sales of alcohol and that's when we start cleaning up -- putting sodas and water back in the fridges, wiping down counters, recounting all the cups and food and drinks so we can see how much we sold, and just general straightening.

There's nothing hard about volunteering at Nissan -- and we really do have a lot of fun out there. Hope we'll see some new faces joining us this weekend!

2003 Season Information

Coordinator: Mr. Dave Elcano DElcano@bacweb.org - Dave is a GRADUATING rower's father WHOSE ROWER WON’T BENEFIT FROM THIS FUNDRAISING) - Kudos to you Dave!

Reporting time: this will vary from concert to concert and I will usually specify the reporting time in the pre-concert email.

Uniforms: No open toed shoes...sorry...very important...can't work there if you wear open toed shoes (they have sent volunteers home...we want to equip you for success!! <grin>). Comfortable shoes, a must...we'll be standing a bit...Khaki pants/shorts (no blue jeans)...If you have your Aramark hats from a previous year please bring them.

Parking: Nissan South Parking lot (approx area: A15, the parking lot is essentially one of the very first you come to (farthest away from the stadium, but still within sight as you drive up Wellington Road from the southeast; if there are parking attendants, tell them you are working the concessions but park where they tell you if they tell you to park). Here is a photo for reference:

Entry: Walk from the parking toward the back of the Nissan pavilion (South Entrance); look for other volunteers and concession workers; you will come to a security guard at the gate (usually under an umbrella)...volunteers provide their name and the guard will look up your name on the fax that I send in to Nissan; the guard will likely be hot, busy, and cranky<nahhhhh!>...if there is a problem, don't yell at him.

Miscellaneous:

After you get through the guard, smile serenely, and proceed along the bank of assorted buildings (~100 feet) until you see what looks like the back entrance to a kitchen (It is). Very important: Go just inside the door of the kitchen and locate our sign in sheet and sign in....Hylton Crew ...on the sheet located somewhere amongst the moving disaster area that is the sign in table <grin>. This is how we get paid!!

If I am not there at the sign-in table, ask if anyone knows where the group from Hylton Crew is.

We will explain the cash registers and various jobs once we see the specific assignments. If you need rides, please contact me or contact someone on the list above. Any additional questions? Please email or call. Thank you for helping to make the Hylton Crew program better for our kids! Thank you! Tom Riddle
