--> What is Crew?
In case you are new to the sport of crew, this section is for you. Hylton
High School Crew is a Varsity sport at
C.D. Hylton High School and
is just starting its 14th year (2007-2008) of competition as a member of the
National Capital
Area Scholastic Rowing Association. We are open to all Hylton students and
no prior experience is required!
Our team size has been fluctuating between fifty to eighty rowers for the last
five or six years.
We are very fortunate to have a premier coaching staff that
provides the optimal training atmosphere for our Men's and Women's teams.
Our rowers are enthusiastic about the upcoming racing season and are
looking forward to improving on our tremendous successes of the past years.

Why Crew?
Crew is a great sport for all high school students. Crew
is unique in that all rowers come to high school with the same level of
experience; they are all beginners! Among all the sports, there is nothing
that approaches Crew for the sense of teamwork – there is no "Most Valuable
Player" in Crew. Everything relies on the Team pulling together as one. This
sense of teamwork, of working together, extends beyond the water: Crew
teammates are some of the closest friends you will have throughout your time
at Hylton! Finally, there is the fact that Crew is as much mental as it is
physical. The same learned drive and dedication used to row a Crew shell to
victory translates into the focus required in the achievement of academic
excellence while in High School and beyond, into College. Many of our rowers
go on to attend prestigious colleges and universities and many continue
their rowing into their college years.
How is Crew Supported?
Crew is supported primarily through fund raising by the
rowers, parents, and friends or Crew. The
Booster's
Executive Committee coordinates all fund raising. If you are a
parent of a current or former rower, we would gladly accept any help you can
offer!
